OXFORDSHIRE, ENGLAND -- Why jump out of a perfectly good airplane, or helicopter? Because he could, that's why, and, stuntman Gary Connery happily survived to celebrate his fall.
42-year-old stuntman Gary Connery is thought to have become the first person to jump out of a helicopter and land safely without deploying a parachute.
Connery, instead, used a "wingsuit" to make his descent from 2,400 feet above Oxfordshire, England. Obviously, this sort of thing is a true 'leap of faith".
In this case, faith in the belief that crashing into a pile of 18,600 cardboard boxes at 80 miles an hour is a good way to to end a jump from an airplane.
The entire flight, or drop, took less than a minute to complete. For the record, Connery was fitted with a parachute for the jump, but it was not deployed. He's done 880 skydives and 450 base jumps, but this is the first one without bothering to use the parachute.
