Two Illinois State Representatives have filed a "joint resolution" asking Congress to make "Cook County" its own state!

Representatives Bill Mitchell and Adam Brown say downstate residents are suffering at the hands of Chicago lawmakers.

Representatives Brown and Mitchell say it's time to divide the state.

This is not the first time this sort of thing has been suggested. In fact, geographer C. Etzel Pearcy suggested a complete re-drawing of state boundaries, in an effort to make compatible areas into combat-able states.

So, Northern Illinois and Indiana, and Southern Michigan and Wisconsin would become the new state of "Dearborn".

Peoria, presumably, would be part of "Osage", made of part of Illinois and Missouri.

Don't like that map?

Here's another possibility, which would divide the country into fifty roughly equal population centers.

Peoria would then be located in the state of 'Lincoln"...

Which may be a more popular name than "Osage".
