I am a Mother of 4, and my oldest child will be getting her driver's license at the end of this month. In addition, I am a highly passionate photographer, Recently, I decided to do a "girl's day out" with my teenage daughter. She wanted more time to practice behind the wheel, and I wanted more time with her one-on-one. The older she gets and the more independent she grows, those days just come less and less!
So, with camera, tripod, and car keys in hand, my teenage daughter and I set out to capture some winter memories!
We set out for East Peoria first! The first shot was taken along the river's edge near Eastport Marina. What a beautifully sunny day it was - even if the temperatures were frigid! There were tons of geese hovering in the icy river. It's so hard to imagine the water being any warmer than the air, but it must be if they're willing to sit in it!
The second photo was shot from behind Walmart in East Peoria, IL. I love the way the ice/snow looks on the water in winter!
While in East Peoria, we decided to take a break and eat at one of our favorite restaurants - Avanti's! We called my Mother up and had her join us for a 3 generation lunch. It was good for her to spend one-on-one time with her Grandaughter also!
Then, after lunch, we headed off to Knox County, Illinois, near Williamsfield. There, we were able to capture a very nice photo of Spoon River.
There were more stops along the way, giving a Mother and Daughter much needed time to talk, laugh, joke, and bond. It's hard to keep teenagers' attention these days, but somehow I managed to do it. She thought it was because I was "letting her drive", but I knew it was because I wanted her time. She'll be grown soon, and I won't have this opportunity any longer. Afterwards, she told me how much fun she had on her "girl's day out" and thanked me for taking her.
It may have been cold outside, but our hearts became warmer that day.
