There has been a lot of talk with this being the 10 year anniversary of 9/11 on Sunday. I have been reflecting on what I was doing that day & how life changed afterwards. I actually knew someone working @ the Pentagon that day who was saved merely because he used another restroom as the one he normally used was being remodeled!
While sorting through my older son's clothes (he was 4 then & is now 14), I was astonished to find a size 4T navy blue t shirt that I purchased after 9/11 that has the NY skyline with lights going upwards where the towers stood. It says United We Stand. The discovery of the shirt stopped me in my tracks as it seemed unbelievable that 10 years had gone by since that terrible day. It also brought to realization that my youngest, who just turned 5, has lived in a world post 9/11. I found myself explaining to him this morning what happened on 9/11 and flashed back to me reminding my then 4 year old 10 years ago about what was going on. It's ironic. My 2 children are 10 years apart. One saw the live footage, the other is oblivious. As my youngest goes to school today, he has the t shirt on worn by my now 14 year old. I hope neither of them witness anything worse (that's incoceivable) in their lifetimes but chances are they will.
