My name is Brandon Collins and I’m currently a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force. I am one of four brothers (TJ 25, Colton 21, Cody 16). I was born and raised in Gridley, IL.
Growing up my Mother’s favorite season was always winter, and thus my favorite holiday was Christmas. Some years Santa dropped off more presents than others, but the feeling of waking up on Christmas morning and rushing into the living room to see wrapped presents can still be felt all these years later.
Last winter I heard about a local family that was having a tough year. The three young children weren’t going to be able to wake up to a Christmas morning like I was able to when I was young. I started thinking, and decided that I would be Santa. My brother’s and I stayed up all night and on the morning of Black Friday filled our carts with $350 worth of toys. On Christmas Eve we delivered the wrapped gifts to their home and helped their mom set them under the tree. We left, through the roof with excitement, knowing what the young kids would wake up to.
This year I have decided to expand my cause. On October 8th I will be running 19 miles from Sams Club in Normal to BP gas station in Gridley as a fundraiser. I will be pushing my body to its limit to raise money to buy Christmas presents. My brother TJ and I will both be matching all donations up to $500 each. Cash or check donations of any amount can be made before or after I run. Every penny earned is going toward the kids. Please make checks out to the “Collins Bros Difference”. Donations can be mailed to 306 Parkway Court Gridley, IL 61744.
After October 8th my brothers and I will start looking for deserving families around the local area. If you would like to recommend a family please do so by providing the family’s background information, the kids interests, and why they deserve the gifts. Once the families are selected we will contact them or those who recommended them and see when they would like the presents delivered. On November 25th (Black Friday) we will go shopping in Bloomington, IL to purchase as many gifts as possible. The Collins Bros family and friends will do all the wrapping and delivering. You can email firstname.lastname@example.org with recommendations or questions and feel free to call myself at 309-287-8091.
