The nuthatch is usually upside down on a tree -- there is a reason for this. The nuthatch has long claws that help it grasp the tree bark while going upside down. It able to see eggs and larvae hidden in crevices, snatching the critters with its long pointed bill. They are in Peoria year round and adapt very well to our winters unlike me.
