SWANS BREAKING UP ICE

Many lakes and part of the IL River were frozen today. It wasn't a deep freeze. The mute swans were gathered together in the few areas that weren't frozen. They all tried very hard to climb up on the ice and it would break so they couldn't get out of the water. Finally they figured if they just kept putting their feet on the ice, they could break up the ice and make a path. Then they were able to eat from the water.
