I was driving into Pekin from the East on Route 9 Saturday afternoon at about 1:00pm, for a St. Patrick's day party, and first birthday party for my grandson Jaxon Pusey (Doug and Brittany-parents) when I noticed smoke ahead. As we drove closer, the smoke intensified and it was obvious that this was indeed a growing fire. As we rounded the curve just passed the high school, smoke was billowing from a location just behind the Ponderosa Steak House in the 2300 block of East Court St. I pulled into the parking lot and began to shoot this video. The truck driver escaped and ran to a house located just west of the fires location and called 911.
The fire started while a Truck Driver was dumping a load dirt, the trailer remaining in the air throughout the length of the video. Fire fighters arrived within 10 minutes and quickly extinguished the blaze. It is not clear what started the fire, and I'm happy to report there were no injuries reported.
