18 Wheel Semi-trailer Explosion & Fire

Approximately 10:20, there was a very loud explosion heard at Champion Fields Softball complex in Normal. Soon after, we heard another explosion. On I-55 near the I-74 Interchange in North Normal, a semi was seen with flames coming from the engine that eventually engulfed the entire cab and burst into flames sending billowing smoke into the surrounding area. There were no emergency vehicles in the area, but after about 10 minutes a fire truck arrived and was able to douse the flames with water. Traffic was backed up on I-55 for at least a mile with no one passing. There was no obvious cause of the explosion as we were just finishing our softball game and no eye witness from the Champion Field complex. There was another semi stopped to help and parked near the truck.
