Each year the National Education Association holds a Read Across America Celebration designed to promote the joys of reading. Gina Morss visited Ms. Runyon's first grade class at Marquette Elementary, in Marquette Heights, who participated in this event which focused this year on Dr. Seuss.
The first graders, wearing their Dr. Seuss hats, spent the day engaged in many activities relating to stories by Dr. Seuss including Green Eggs and Ham read to the class by Gina. The first graders, in turn, read their favorite Dr. Seuss stories to the three Kindergarten classes.
The students also did creative writing activities relating to If I Ran The Zoo, experimented with oobleck from the story Bartholomew and the Oobleck, and enjoyed cake and punch while playing Sneetch ball and Oh The Places I'm Going.
The students enjoyed their day of Dr. Seuss activities and sharing their joy of reading with others.
