The Sunbeam Tiger is perhaps best known for it's role on the TV show "Get Smart". A low budget show the first year, that car actually belonged to Don Adams, who played Maxwell Smart. Less known may be that it was powered by a Ford V8 engine and was a true, if unassuming, performance car. The prototype was built by Carroll Shelby after the success of his Cobra sports car. While not as fast as the Cobra, the Tiger had roll-up windows and a built-in soft top, unlike the Cobra. It was also half the price. With quick handling, light weight and V8 power, it remains the favorite car that I've ever driven. A strike in the U.K. killed the Sunbeam company in 1968 and the Tiger was gone after only a little over 5,000 were imported to the U.S. Originally opposed to the purchase, my wife told me, "You better plan on keeping that thing for a while." That was 1972. I still have it. I can't imagine not owning it.
