While US immigration is a hot topic in many circles, there are few who would have any qualms with a hard-working, taxpaying, law-abiding immigrant who fled his country to save his life becoming a US citizen.
Unfortunately for Eddy Eddyto and his family, it is the US government that is keeping this from happening. Even worse, they have decided that barring a miracle, this married father of two little girls will be deported on August 21st.
When Eddy Eddyto fled Indonesia and sought asylum in the United States 12 years ago, he had no idea what the future held for him. He was sure that America was where he wanted that future to be.
Knowing that he could be sent back if he didn't follow the U.S. Immigration laws to the letter, he hired an agency in Virginia who worked specifically with Indonesian immigrants. Unfortunately, the lawyers were not as interested in helping immigrants as they claimed. They gave Eddyto bad advice, which caused his case to be closed. The firm was indicted on several counts of fraud for their actions and Eddyto's lawyer is now in prison for his crimes.
Although U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock, R-Peoria, and U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Chicago, made pleas to the Department of Homeland Security on the Eddyto family's behalf, the case has still not been reopened.
Eddyto's wife Cheri (Tate) Eddyto, continues to fight for her husband through Facebook pleas, letter-writing campaigns and even a video plea from the couple's four-year-old daughter to "Please keep Daddy here."
Due to the dangers in Indonesia for Christians and foreigners, Eddyto has made it clear that he will not be taking his wife and daughters with him if he is told to pack his bags on August 21st.
