Pelican Along The Illinois River

Pelican Along The Illinois River

Saw several pelicans flying around the Illinois River on Saturday. Also saw several places where they are nesting. This is a sure sign of spring weather.

I WAS DRIVING EAST ON ROUTE 88 NEAR ROCK FALLS, WHEN I SAW ABOUT 100 OR SO PELICANS ON A SMALL LAKE JUST SOUTH OF THE ROAD. AT FIRST I THOUGHT I WAS SEEING THINGS. I DIDN'T KNOW THAT PELICANS CAME THIS FAR INLAND. TOOK ME BY SURPRISE!

I thaught I was drinking when we were on 71 driving East. There were over 200 Pelicans on the river crusing up and down the river. They are so cool to look at and when they fly the wing span is over 7 feet long. I guess the fishing is good there.
