My Dad is the Best Dad because he is kind, patient and has a big heart!
His kindness is evident in the way he takes care of children and animals. He has seven grown children and twelve grandchildren - we all think he is the greatest! He calls every week ... just to check in and see how things are going - in the smallest ways, he shows each of us how much he cares.
He has passed on his love of animals to me ...
I can remember as a child, my Dad would take the time to show me the beauty and importance of nature and animals. I remember one morning at the lake when I was a very small child - my Dad and I sat quietly at the water's edge watching four, little duckling swim and play in the water as the sun rose in the morning sky and sparkled across the lake. What a beautiful moment in my childhood!
I remember another early morning when my Dad came home from work and couldn't wait to show me a surprise. My Dad had found an abandoned nest of baby bunnies and brought them home in a makeshift nest of paper towels in his lunch box. He showed me how to keep them warm and how to bottle-feed them. I spent the next few weeks taking care of these tiny, helpless, baby bunnies. I was so excited the day we released them into the backyard and they hopped off happily to live a nice bunny life!
To this day, my Dad maintains this love for animals. He loves to sit on the porch and watch the deer in his backyard. He takes in homeless cats that are dumped at his house and makes sure they have plenty to eat. And just a few years ago, he adopted a wonderful five-year-old, yellow lab named Maggie from TAPS Animal Shelter. She too loves my Dad! Each day, Maggie jumps in the truck, snuggles up on the front seat next to my Dad - and, is ready to go anywhere with him!
We think my Dad is the Best!
