Ryan is a 14-year-old boy from the central Illinois town of Normal who likes the Cubs and watching movies like Toy Story and The Lion King. When he was a toddler, Ryan began having seizures. The doctors determined he was suffering from Lennox-Gestaut Syndrome, a severe form of epilepsy. As a result of the incredible amount of seizures he has had, Ryan has some significant cognitive delays and speaks with one or two-word sentences.
During the week, Ryan attends a school for children with special needs. One part of school that he absolutely loves it the special bicycle that makes it safe for him to ride. His mother says being able to ride that bicycle puts a look of pure joy on Ryan's face. When referred to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois, Ryan and his family determined that the best possible wish for him was a bicycle of his own to enjoy anytime he wants to feel the wind in his hair.
Ryan's wish for a Team Dual Trike will come came true on Saturday, June 7 at Pedal for Wishes in Skokie, Illinois. His parents and older brothers were filled with excitement at the prospect of Ryan's wish coming true. Ryan's bike was presented in front of hundreds of Pedals for Wishes participants. His eyes lit up and the excitment was evident as he raced to get strapped into the specially adapted cycle.
Ryan led off the Children's Pedal Parade through Westfield Old Orchard Shopping Center as part of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois Pedal For Wishes Bike Tour.
