Pekin sprinter holds #1 spot in 3A

Pekin High School Junior Cole Henderson sits atop the IHSA 3a indoor track competition in the 55mm and is preparing to defend his ranking this Saturday at Illinois Wesleyan Best Timers meet. (Comparable to the ISHA state championship). The Pekin Junior stepped onto the track for the first time this season last weekend at the Charleston invitational and defeated top ranking sprinters by matching the meet record time and claiming a 1st place finish. Henderson, as a sophomore last year claimed the mid Ilini 100m conference championship and was a photo finish 2nd best in the conferences 200m race. In addition to the 55m at Charleston, Henderson also placed the 2nd fastest pre-lim time in the 200m as well as a 2nd place finish in the long jump. Henderson is currently ranked #25 in the nation for the 55m with the 15th fastest time in the country.( Sure hope Jim or Lee will be at IWU Saturday to watch this one go down. There are several other local track athletes registered to compete this weekend as well....... Good luck Cole!!
