CONSERVING ENERGY IN SNOW STORM

This dove is conserving energy from the snow storm to survive. He is puffed up which keeps him warm and sleeping conserves energy. It's amazing how they protect themselves in cold weather. This dove has his feathers covering his legs although birds feet don't freeze because they send blood to their feet. Mourning Doves in particular have a hard time dealing with our cold winters. Mourning Doves have not lived in our cold climate as long as chickadees etc., and sometimes they will lose a toe or two to frostbite! Even nature is not perfect, but it is always being perfected.
