Press Release: (August 25, 2008) IDABEL, OK
When SuZan Brakebill Cole sat down for a tuna sandwich this past May, she got more than she bargained for - a sour cream & onion flavored chip that bears an uncanny likeness to the King himself: Elvis Presley.
"I can't believe I saw it before I popped it in my mouth. I've heard of people finding all kinds of odd shapes in their potato chips, but never thought much about it." says Cole. "Still, I knew that I had something pretty amazing, so I immediately got up and put it in a safe place. I've been hanging on to it for a rainy day."
The chip is 5 cm wide x 6 cm tall and bears a remarkable resemblance to the King. (see photos) It was discovered in a bag of J. Higgs Sour Cream and Onion Flavor Potato Chips that was purchased from an Idabel, OK Sav-A-Lot store.
Cole plans to sell the Elvis potato chip this week in an eBay auction and use the proceeds to fund a romantic trip with her husband Jeff of 18 years. "We have been married nearly 19 years and we've never really had a honeymoon."
Recent ebay auctions for such unusual items have included a supposedly haunted walking cane that sold for over $65,000 and a Virgin Mary with baby Jesus shaped pretzel that fetched $10,600.
The "Elvis Chip" goes up for auction on eBay.com this Thursday, August 28th. Photos can be seen prior to the auction at ElvisChip.com.
The Coles' desired vacation destination?
Laughing, Cole replied, "Why, to Blue Hawaii, of course."
