I stood in front of the mirror with the hair spray in my hand. It was October 15, 2005, my daughters birthday. I had been diagnosed with breast cancer in July, had a lumpectomy in August, and my first chemo treatment the end of September. I had read all I could all about losing my hair! It's such a dreaded side effect for every woman going through chemo treatment! I knew there was just a 10% chance that it wouldn't all fall out. "Maybe if I sprayed the thin hair I had left", I thought, it would "stick."
That night, after the third day of masses of my hair falling out in the shower, I realized I had bald spots. I asked my husband to use his mustache trimmer and shave it all off! Every pore in my head hurt. So, here I was - bald! It was one of the hardest things to face, after the diagnosis. My husband surprised me a day or so later and shaved off his hair to match! The blessing was my hair grew in more beautiful than ever before! Every week, someone tells me they love my hair color and as I reflect back on those "no hair" days I'm thankful for ALL the experiences breast cancer taught me, but especailly for my new hair!!
Bald is Beautiful!
