On May 8th Metamora St. Mary's became the Class A IESA Scholastic Bowl State Champs. The Junior High 8th Grade Team completed their season with a 12 and 1 record and then made a clean sweep of victories at regionals and sectionals to go on to compete at the state level for the first time in the 13 years of Scholastic Bowl at St. Mary's. Team coaches are Mary Grabenstetter, Alan Anderson and Linda Force.
Competition was intense during the first two matches at state, but the St. Mary's team was victorious in defeating Newark-Lisbon 176-141 and then defeating Paris Crestwood 187 to 179. That match came down to St. Mary's answering the final question of the match and then getting 3 of the 5 bonus questions to win by 8 points. The team continued to win over Limestone-Walters 246 to 65, and the championship round ended with an excellent match against Bloomington-Holy Trinity 172 to 90.
