"Share" he asks his sister.

Dual Diagnosis/Down Synrome & Autism

The news reports tell us "don't panic". The state budget may not force the severe cuts to social services that we are hearing about. Services at our home end tomorrow, June 30th! Nathan is 12 years old and more than a handful. He is loved dearly and loves back. It is heartwarming to see him interact with his sister Emma and how good she is with him. When he says, "share?" he is asking to have one earbud of her ipod to listen to. But when the severe, aggressive behaviors occur people are injured and property is damaged. This is shown in the photo of a hole in our basement door and one of the numerous dents in the walls from his throwing things or banging his head.
About two weeks ago we received a letter from DCFS that the program to provide therapeutic stabilization has been discontinued effective July 1. Over the last 3-4 years I cannot count the number of caregivers The Baby Fold has tried for our son. Only 3 have been able to be successful and "durable" enough to work with Nathan and provide the 20 or so hours of services a week. When we received this letter my first thought was to contact Lutheran Social Services and seek help from the adoption assistance program. Then we received their letter that those services are also being cancelled.
