When I firts moved to Palestine township southwest of El Paso in Woodford county in 2006, our 1/2 mile township road was gravel and in fair shape. Since then, it has continued to deteriorate every year with this spring being the worst road conditions I have seen yet. The road is no longer gravel, but rather has been allowed to deteriorate to dirt. Even the white rock road base is gone. I can't remember the last time a load of gravel has been brought in. The road itself is heaving in the center. Cars can no longer pass; it is 4 wheel drive only. We've had 2 vehicles become mired in this mess over the past 3 days. Four families live at the end of this road. I, myself, have a newborn and have wondered how an ambulance or fire engine would even get down this road. I simply do not understand how township roads are allowed to degenerate as the homes on our lane are not inexpensive homes--meaning we contribute substantially via real estate taxes to the county and township.
