Local Racer wins Regional Championship

Local Racer Brady Neys Earns a spot at National Championship Motocross Race at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch

Hurricane Mills, TN
Brady Neys, a 14 year old motocross racer from Edelstein, IL, made a dream come true by qualifying for the largest amateur motocross race in the world. Brady completed this feat just ten months after what could have been a career ending knee injury. Last September Brady underwent ACL reconstruction surgery to repair an injury that occurred in July, 2009. The surgery, which took place near Dallas, TX, was followed by 16 weeks of intensive rehabilitation and now the 14year-old motocross racer from Edelstein, IL has qualified for the 29th annual Air Nautiques/AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch. Brady took on over 20,000 hopefuls from across America to earn two of the 1386 qualifying positions.

Brady, a recent graduate of St. Edwards Grade School in Chillicothe, will be attending Illinois Valley Central High School as a freshman this coming school year. In addition to motocross, his interests include hockey, golf and working with his brother mowing lawns.

In addition to support from his parents, Brady relies on his sponsors: Espy Motorsports, Grayboy Kawasaki, Sunset Ridge Motocross, The Cycle Pit and Inman Construction to help support his racing. Brady competes nearly every weekend at races throughout the Midwest. He has won many races in his 8 year motocross career, but none bigger than winning his first Regional Title, which came in the 250 Novice Stock class at the North Central Regional in Mason, IL on June 27th. Brady also finished 3rd place overall in the 250 Modified Class, so he is qualified to race the nationals in these two classes. Brady's older brother Nick also competed at the regional event. Nick placed 11th overall in the intermediate level 450 Stock class, and will be placed on the national roster as an alternate. Nick qualified and raced the Air Nautiques/AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships two years ago in the novice class.

Brady and Nick will spend a week at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch along with their parents and two sisters to participate in the event starting on August 1st. Racing starts on Tuesday August 3rd and concludes Saturday August 7th.,

Brady and Nick are just two of the over 20,000 who spent the last four months qualifying for the event. The top finishers in area and regional qualifiers earn a birth into the national championship race at Loretta Lynn’s. Racers may enter a wide variety of classes, from minicycle classes for children as young as four, all the way up to a Senior division for riders over 45. There are also classes for women, and classes for both stock and modified bikes.

“The Amateur Nationals at Loretta Lynn’s is the event every motocross racer in the country wants to compete in,” says Event Director Tim Cotter. “A win at the Amateur Nationals can serve as a springboard to a lucrative professional motocross career.” Most of America’s top professional motocrossers, including James Stewart, Ricky Carmichael, Travis Pastrana and Jeremy McGrath have won AMA Amateur National Championships at Loretta Lynn’s. The race is so prestigious that last year teenage stars such as Eli Tomac and Dean Wilson were awarded pro contracts after the race.

The track is built on a section of Loretta Lynn’s Ranch and Campground in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. The track will be specifically designed for the national amateur event and only runs one time per year. The course contains a variety of jumps, corners and other obstacles designed to test the skills and stamina of the racers.

Most riders attend the event with the help of their families. In fact, many groups consider the event their family’s summer vacation. Besides races, the ranch provides family-friendly facilities including a game room, swimming pools, arts and crafts activities, and a fashion and talent show.
